DIRECTORATE OF ENGINEER SERVICES ORGANIZED A CONTINUOUS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (CPD) PROGRAMME ON "FROM THEORY TO PRACTICE: DESIGNING, PLANNING, CONSTRUCTION OF THE COMMANDOS' CONFIDENCE JUMP ARENA PROJECT AT UVA KUDA OYA"

An insightful knowledge-sharing session was organized by the Directorate of Engineer Services (Dte of ES) in collaboration with College of Military Engineering Technology Sri Lanka (CMETSL) aimed at enhancing technical expertise and shaping the future of military engineering and technology within the tri-forces. The session, which focused on the "Challenges and Lessons Learned from Planning, Designing, and Construction of Commandos' Confidence Jump Arena Project at Uva - Kudaoya" which is a brainchild of the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army Lt Gen HLVM Liyanage. The project was initiated with the scope of enhancing training facilities of the Special Forces of the tri forces and to provide facilities for foreign military training programmes. The event took place at the Regimental Headquarters of the Corps of Engineer Services (RHQ CES) on 04 December 2024.

The event set a remarkable turnout, with more than 140 participants from the Sri Lanka Army, Navy, and Air Force, highlighting the strong commitment to fostering professional development across the services. The primary objective of the session was to share technical knowledge, best practices, and practical insights into construction projects carry out by the tri forces of Sri Lanka.

The speakers, who included experts from the Corps of Engineer Services, discussed various technical aspects pertaining to construction of water retaining structures, ranging from concept development, design principles, effective project planning, construction of structures and steel fabrication, effective water filtration system, quality control and overall challenges and monitoring of the project.

This session not only provided a platform for knowledge exchange but also reinforced the importance of cross-service collaboration in enhancing engineering capabilities.The workshop was well-received by the participants, who engaged in detailed discussions and shared their experiences, further enriching the learning environment.

This collaborative effort aims to enhance the skill set of military engineers, ensuring that they are well-equipped to handle infrastructure projects in the future.
