New Hangar for the UAV Research Development Project Declared Open by Commander

The Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana declared a newly renovated Hangar Complex for the UAV Research Development Project located at SLAF Station Katukurunda today (05 August 2021). The Commander was received on his arrival by Wing Commander Jayanath De Silva, the Officer Commanding UAV Research and Development at Katukurunda. The Commander was accorded a ceremonial street lining on his arrival at the Station.

The Commander unveiled the opening plaque and thereafter declared open the newly renovated Hangar Complex which a pressing need of the UAV Research and Development Project for the past few years. The Commander was taken on a tour of the new facility where he was briefed on the present progress of the project and on the future plans which will see the "Lihiniya Mk-1" Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Project reaching its target of developing a fully operational entirely Sri Lankan made UAV.

The Commander also participated for a group photograph before departing SLAF Station Katukurunda.
