THE COLLEGE OF MILITARY ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY SRI LANKA (CMETSL) INAUGURATED WITH A GLAMOROUS CEREMONY

Inauguration ceremony of the College of Military Engineering and Technology Sri Lanka (CMETSL) was held on 13th October 2022 at Eagle's Lakeside Rathmalana. The ceremony was graced by Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, General Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc Mphil as the Chief Guest, at the invitation extended by the President, Executive Committee and all members of CMETSL. The CMETSL is structured with a counsel comprised of Defence Secretary as the Patron, Chief of Defence Staff as the Senior Vice Patron and Tri-Service Commanders along with the Vice Chancellor of KDU as Vice Patrons of the college.

The Chief of Defence Staff General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, the Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne RSP* VSV USP ndc psc MMaritimePol MPhil (D&SS) MA (DS), Engineer Tilak De Silva the Chairman of Engineering Council Sri Lanka as the Guest of Honour, Prof. Kapila Perera as Keynote Speaker, Chiefs of Staff of Tri-Services, Technical officers of Tri-Services and civilian dignitaries also participated for the event.

At the outset, President of the CMETSL welcomed Chief Guest and all distinguished invitees for the Inauguration Ceremony of CMETSL and expressed that the CMETSL is established to be amongst the other similar engineering institutions in the world to set standards of professional practice in Military Engineering and to utilize them effectively for the sustainable development and National Security of the country. Further, he elaborated that this was a long waited synergetic approach towards achieving a common forum for knowledge sharing and proficiency uplifting for all military engineers and IT professionals in Tri-Services. President CMETSL highlighted the excellent support and guidance received from Secretary Ministry of Defence, CDS, Tri-Services Commanders and Vice Chancellor KDU. Finally, the President appraised Major General Renuka Rowel RWP VSV USP ndu USACGSC for his close supervision and guidance towards achieving expected goals.

Professor Kapila Perera also addressed the forum as Key Note Speaker and expressed the future collaboration of military towards nation building and utilization of military aids towards public and synergizing of civil industry in to this intended mechanism.

Secretary Ministry of Defence also highlighted his expectation of this college to be the premier Military Engineering Institution in Sri Lanka with international recognition, facilitating the professional growth of all Tri Service engineers and IT professionals in multi faceted engineering disciplines to meet all current and future requirements of the Sri Lankan Armed Forces.

The CMETSL website was also launched by the Chief Guest. The Army, Navy, and Air Force cultural troops showcased their performances which were a mix of engineering and traditional culture adding glamour to the event.
