SRI LANKA ARMY INTRODUCED THE SINGLE PC WITH MULTIPLE HOSTS CONCEPT
The Directorate of Information Technology, Sri Lanka Army has introduced a concept to create multiple user accesses using a single CPU, called the Single PC with Multiple Hosts Concept without any extra hardware such as the need for an extra switch or network (LAN). To set up the multi-user system with a single CPU no need for resource allocations on Virtual Machine (VM Ware, Virtual Box, etc.). It enables several hosts to operate as separate computers with the same operating system.
It is a significant challenge to provide the necessary computers and peripherals for the expansion of the Information Technology infrastructure given the country's current economic status. This idea will aid in managing the limited computer hardware and other resources needed to build an Information Technology infrastructure.
As an initial step, The Directorate of Information Technology has implemented the Single PC with Multiple Hosts concept at the Army Library at Sri Lanka Army Headquarters as a pilot project, which has been successfully utilized for e-library facilities.
Further, The Directorate of Information Technology is planning to implement the Single PC with Multiple Hosts in island-wide Army establishments soon.
