SOLAR POWERED REVERSE OSMOSIS PLANT
General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU), is graduate research Defence University situated in Sri Lanka committed to achieve millennium sustainable goals and conduct collaboration research work with Sri Lanka Navy, especially in field of Brackish Water Reverse Osmosis application to eliminate Chronic Kidney Diseases unknown etiology in Sri Lanka. In order to achieve the vision of KDU, Department of Marine Engineering has initiated number of studies to integrate solar power with existing BWRO plant to satisfy the safe drinking water needs of CKDU impacted community in Sri Lanka. As a result, group of researchers led by Commodore (E) MCP Dissanayake MSc (ME) (Australia), BTech Mech Eng, CEng(India), MIE(India), AMIE(SL) of Department of Marine Engineering has successfully developed a Solar powered RO plant which can be used to clean drinking water in an energy efficient manner.
