SRI LANKA NAVY CONDUCTS INDUSTRY AWARENESS PROGRAMME TO EXTEND BOAT DESIGN SERVICES TO BOAT BUILDING INDUSTRY
The Directorate of Naval Design (DND) of Sri Lanka Navy conducted an industry awareness programme successfully for the potential boat builders in Sri Lanka on 3rd April 2023 at the DND office complex, Welisara to promote the capabilities of the SLN design office and to support industry in their boat design works for the growth of the industry. The officials of Chamber of Marine Industry in Sri Lanka, Export Development Board (EDB), Boat Building Technology Improvement Institute (BTI) and nearly 40 members representing leading boat builders in Sri Lanka participated in the event.
During the event, the participants were educated on the evolution of naval design office since establishment in 2010, state of the art technology available for design works, the software availability and the trained naval architects, mechanical and electrical engineering team. Sri Lanka Navy plans to develop DND to be the foremost state owned ship design office in Sri Lanka in its roadmap of development by 2025.
The boat building industry is an emerging export sector as identified by the ministry to create much needed blue economy for the country.
