FIRST EVER ISLAND GREEN IN SRI LANKA
The first-ever Island Green of all golf courses in Sri Lanka was declared opened by Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana on 20 May 2023 at the lagoon of Eagles Golf Link, China Bay. The Eagles Golf Link, China Bay is known to be one of the hardest courses in the region, this Island Green will challenge even the most proficient of Golfers and it is destined to attract Golfers from beyond our shores to test their game.
As per the brainchild of the Commander of the Air Force, Director General Civil Engineering Air Vice Marshal Udula Wijesinghe who is presently appointed as the Chairman, Civil Engineering Sectional Committee of CMETSL was taken this innovative task on his hand to complete the island green within the period of two months with his proficient team. Although, this is a mysterious design for any Engineers who are not practicing relevant to this field, it is proudly said that, we, Directorate of Civil Engineering, Sri Lanka Air Force have designed and built this elegance Island Green successfully, applying engineering theoretical knowledge as appropriate and, in accordance with the expectations of higher authorities.
This remarkable Island Green is covered around 8000sqft in the lagoon and it is 10ft height from the bottom of the lagoon and 35ft away from the land. 750 cubes of various types of boulders mixed with sand, rubble, gravel, top soil, compost, coir dust, bermuda grass etc. were used to get appropriate strength to the island and glamorous appearance for the final output of the project. Applying of engineering knowledge in right ways in right times, proper planning, monitoring, coordinating and work as a team, finally, come out with the another magnificence land mark to the Sri Lanka as an Island Green.
