CDRD HANDED OVER 15 INNOVATIVE PRODUCTS TO END-USERS

Making another significant stride in the sphere of military innovations, the Centre for Defence Research and Development of the State Ministry of National Security and Disaster Management handed over 15 x innovations to the Ministry of Defence, Tri-Services and few other government organisations. The consigning ceremony was held on 8th November 2021 and the Secretary of Defence and Secretary of National Security and Disaster Management General G D H Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc MPhil graced the event as the Chief Guest. CDS and Commander of the Sri Lanka Army General LHSC Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, Additional Secretary (State Ministry) Mr E.A.J.Edirisinghe, Chief of Staff of Sri Lanka Navy Rear Admiral YN Jayarathne RWP & BAR RSP USP ndu psc MDS MHS and Chief of Staff of Sri Lanka Air Force Air Vice Marchal MDAP Payoe RWP RSP USP MSC NSWS ndc psc and senior military officers were also present for the event on the invitation of the Director General of CDRD, Major General Renuka Rowel (Retd) RWP VSV USP ndu psc USACGSC.


All invitees were received and welcomed by the Director-General and accompanied to the main display arena for the product briefing and consigning ceremony. Fifteen new products ready to be handed over were lined up and briefed by respective Wing Heads/ Project Officers of the Radio and Electronics Wing, IT and GIS Wing and Electrical and Mechanical Wing. These products included a Tracking Device for Special Operations, a Wild Elephant repelling device, an Electronic Target System for Jungle Lane Firing, a BTR Simulator, a 81 mm Mortar Simulator, a B-vehicle simulator, an Electronic Prohsthatics Limb for differently-abled soldiers, a Drone Jammer System and 30 x units of indigenously designed and built first Digital Mobile Radio of Sri Lanka; "Creeper". The handed over projects also included 6 x software systems, including High Tech- Soldier System, Land Acquisition and Vesting Information Management System, Food Procurement Management System, Document Management System and MoU Management System. The official handing over of the products took place after the product briefing. The BTR simulator, B Vehicle Simulator, 81 mm Mortar Simulator, Tracking Device, Electronic Target System and High-Tech Soldier Software were officially handed over to the CDS and Commander of the Army for the use of Armoured Corps Training Centre, Infantry Training Centre-Minneriya, Army Driving School-Anuradhapura, Special Forces and Directorate of Operations. 10 x units of the Digital Mobile Radios were also handed over to CDS and Chiefs of Staff of Sri Lanka Navy and Air Force. Officers' Database for National Cadet Corps software application was received by Colonel HT Devapura, Inspector of Training, National Cadet Corps. A Wild Elephant repelling device was symbolically handed over to Mr MSLRP Marasinghe, Director Operations, Department of Wildlife Conservation of Sri Lanka.


After the consigning ceremony, a brief presentation was conducted by Lt Col Bandula Nishshanka RSP USP psc on the role and current function of the CDRD, at the conference hall. During the subsequent discussion, Secretary Defence appriciated the Director-General and the staff for their exceptional efforts and displayed professionalism. While promising to provide his fullest support for the CDRD's continuous expansion, Defence Secretary emphasised that Tri-Services must also extend their support to CDRD. At the end of the discussion, all guests were invited for tea at the Officers' Mess. Mementoes were also presented to the Secretary of Defence, Additional Secretary (National Security) and the Navy and Air Force Chief of Staff by the Director-General at the Officers` Mess. The Secretary of Defence signined the Visitor's Book.
