About Me
I have joined the Sri Lanka Navy on 05th November 2001 as an Officer Cadet of the Engineering Branch in the 35th Officer Cadet intake, after attending Bandaranayake College, Gampaha. I have underwent officer cadet training at the Naval and Maritime Academy in Trincomalee before being sent to Naval College of Engineering at Indian Naval Ship Shivaji, India, which is affiliated with Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi where I have received a Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering in December 2004, after which I have served as the Marine Engineer (Fast Gun Boat) Workshop III as my first appointment. During an impressive career spanning 20 years, I have held many key appointments including Administration Officer of Inspector New Construction at Western Naval Command (2007-2009), Engineer Officer SLNS Shakthi (Landing Ship Tanker) and A 521 (Auxiliary Ship), Senior Marine Engineer (South) at Southern Naval Command (2012-2013), Senior Engineer Officer (Auto Mobile) at Naval Headquarters (2013-2014), Officer In-charge of Driver Training School at SLNS Thakshila ( 2014 February to June), Senior Marine Engineer (Fast Gun Boat) at Eastern Naval Command (2014 June to 2017), Engineer Officer SLNS Sagara (Offshore Petrol Vessel) (2017-2018), Senior Marine Engineer (Propulsion and Workshop) at Western Naval Command, Engineer Officer SLNS Gajabahu and followed Defence Services Command and Staff College at Sapugaskanda in Sri Lanka and presently working at Navy Headquarters as Senior Staff Engineer Officer (Administration). My service decorations and medals include the Armed Service Long Service Medal, East Humanitarian Operation Medal & Clasp, North Humanitarian Operation Medal & Clasp, North and East Operational Medal, Purna Bhumi Padakkama, Seva Padakkama, Seva Abhimani and Commendation Badge with two stars. Further, I have attended number of local and foreign courses of academic and professional value, including the Marine Engineering Specialization Course at INS Shivaji in India, continuous professional development courses in China and following Master degree at University of Moratuwa under Manufacturing System Engineering. I have Charted/Associate membership of the Institution of Engineers in India and an Associate membership of the Institution of Engineers in Sri Lanka and reading for Chartered Engineering in same institute. I am happily married to Waruni and blessed with two daughters, Akithya and Ayuni.

Career Experience
- Handpicked by Sri Lanka Navy to take over the newly acquired Advance Offshore Patrol Vessel (AOPV) from United States Coast Guard (Ex: USCGC Sherman) as an Engineer Officer of the ship’s transfer project and successfully completed the refurbishment project and her home bound voyage from USA to Sri Lanka. (Project Duration 12 Months, Project Cost Approximately 15 Mn USD) – 2018 to 2019.
- Appointed as Senior Engineer Coordinator to solve the long outstanding issue of SLNS Udara and Prathapa Gear Box repairs. Repairs were successfully completed for 06 Gear Boxes out of 08 and ships performances were brought back to her original state. (Project duration – 03 Months, Project Cost Approximately 1 Mn USD) – 2015.
- Appointed as Marine Engineer Coordinator for SLNS Nandimithra re-engine and refurbishment project which was successfully completed installing 04 no’s of new MTU 16V396 TE74L engines with correction to propulsion system onboard. Vessel was designed for 28 KN whereas her final performance was reached to 32 KN. Ship is still operating with same performances. (Project Duration 18 Months, Project Cost Approximately 15 Mn USD) - 2008 to 2009.
- Appointed as Marine Engineer for the construction of 12 Fishing Trawlers for Intelligence duties with the consultation of M/S Winalari Marine (Pvt) Co and project was successfully completed by stipulated time frame. Those trawlers are still in operational condition up to date. (Project Duration one years, Project cost Approximately 1.5 Mn USD) – 2008 to 2009.
Career Achivements
- Awarded the Purna Bhumi Medal (Service award presented to all ranks of the Tri-Forces of Sri Lanka and Police of Sri Lanka, and Civilian on the completion of 06 month continuous service in North and East Province of Sri Lanka).
- Awarded the North and East Operational Medal (Service award presented to all ranks of the Tri-forces of Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka Police on the completion of 03 years continuous service in North and East Province of Sri Lanka).
- Awarded the East Humanitarian operation medal with the clasp (Service award presented to all ranks of the Tri-Forces of Sri Lanka and Police of Sri Lanka, and Civilian involvement in operations on the Eastern Theater of Eelam War IV).
- Awarded the North Humanitarian operation medal with the clasp (Service award presented to all ranks of the Tri-Forces of Sri Lanka and Police of Sri Lanka, and Civilian involvement in operations on the Northern Theater of Eelam War IV).
- Awarded the Sri Lanka Armed Services Long Service Medal with clasp (Service award presented to all ranks of the Tri-Forces of Sri Lanka on the completion of 20 years continuous service with perfect character and discipline).
- Recipient of Commander of the Navy's commendation badge with two stars for sound conduct and devotion to the duty (Two times).
- Awarded the Sewabhimani Padakkama the Sewa Padakkama (Service award presented to all ranks of Tri-Forces of Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka Police and Civilians for services to the nation and its development following the conclusion of the Sri Lankan Civil War in May 2009).
- Bestowed with Surface Warfare badge in recognition of his exemplary service at sea.
- Awarded Pass Staff Course insignia for successfully completed the Defence Services Command and Staff College.
- Awarded the Videsha Sewa Padakkama (Service award presented to all ranks of the tri-forces of Sri Lanka to active service outside the territorial limits of the island provided such services is connected with active service in the foreign military mission or in the defecnce of Sri Lanka or for services connected with military or peace keeping operation conducted under the suspices of the United Nations Organization).
- Awarded the Uththama Sewa Padakkama (Service award presented to all ranks of the Tri-Forces of Sri Lanka to duty at least 15 years of continuous service with perfect disciplinary and unblemished service record).
