About Me
BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH Cdr (Engineering) DMPM Dasanayaka, psn of SLN, was born on the day of 16th October 1982, to the family of Late Mr. Somapala Dasanayaka and Late Mrs. Gracelin De Silva as the only child of the family. He has completed his G.C.E Ordinary Level and Advanced Level (Secondary schooling) at Royal College, Colombo 7, Sri Lanka. The student has joined Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) on 23rd October 2002 as an Officer Cadet to the engineering branch of 38th intake, NMA. During the past twenty years of service in SLN, he has followed various professional and military studies. He was graduated in the field of Mechanical Engineering in year 2005 and has obtained Bachelor of Technology degree in Mechanical Engineering from Sri Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India. He is a Chartered Engineer of Institution of Engineers (Sri Lanka) and Institute of Engineers (India). He has conducted a research which spanned over almost five years to publish the findings titled “Development of Safe Operational Criteria for Ships Based on Vibration Analysis”. He was able to introduce a novel safety factor and a severity index for safety of ships against adverse vibrations. This effort earned him a Master of Philosophy in Mechanical Engineering from University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka in 2019. He has presented nine papers in International Conferences and published two international journal papers. Apart to above, he has been rendering services as a visiting lecturer for General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University for BSc students since 2014, on the subject of “Vibration and Ship Controllability”. Cdr Dasanayaka completed his Master in Defence Studies (Maritime) from National Defence University, Islamabad, Pakistan in 2022 and earned ‘passed staff navy’ upon successful completion of 51st Pakistan Navy Staff Course. His noteworthy appointments were Engineer Officer onboard naval ships Sayura, Suranimila & Samudura and Officer in Charge (Machinery Testing and Trials Unit) of SLN. He is presently appointed as Manager Engineering Department (FGB and Aux.) at SLN Dockyard, Trincomalee. He is married to Mrs. Roshani Gunasekera and blessed with one son.
