NATION BUILDING PROJECTS
Apart from the classic role, the Corps of EME actively participates in nation building projects to uplift the living standards of Sri Lankan citizens. These initiatives fulfilled the immediate requirements of the public with less expenditure, thus saving much needed funds diverting for other essential areas.
WALASMULLA FAIR
Walasmulla fair was constructed and handed over to the Urban Development Authority in the month of November 2021. The project was carried out by 402 SLEME Base Workshop - Udawalawa with the assistance of the 14th Regiment Corps of Engineer Services.
MANNING MARKET ROOF & STALLS
The shopping facilities at Manning Market - Peliyagoda were expanded by constructing additional stalls. The project was carried out by 401 SLEME Base Workshop - Colombo with the assistance of the 6th (V) Regiment Corps of Engineer Services.
OUT-DOOR GYM EQUIPMENT
Calisthenic gym equipment were designed, fabricated and handed over to the Urban Development Authority to be installed at the Madiwela Walking path. The project was carried out by 501 Sri Lanka Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Factory - Kosgama.
SMART BUS STOP
The concept of eco-friendly bus stop was introduced in parallel to the 'Park & Ride' Programme. The project was carried out by 501 Sri Lanka Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Factory -Kosgama and this was installed at the Pitakotte Junction. Bus stop was ceremonially opened with the participation of the State minister of Transport Services and the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army.
REPAIRS ON FLOWERS SHOPS AT DIYATHA UYANA
168 nos Florist Shops at Diyatha Uyana were fabricated by the Corps of EME more than a decade ago. Due to prolonged exposure to the environment, some of the steel structures were corroded and roof tentage materials were discolored with fungus. SLEME troops from 501 Sri Lanka Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Factory- Kosgama have undertaken the responsibility of refurbishing of these Florist Shops.
