Making another significant stride in the sphere of military innovations, the Centre for Defence Research and Development of the State Ministry of National Security and Disaster Management handed over 15 x innovations to the Ministry of Defence, Tri-Services and few other government organisations. NATION BUILDING PROJECTS

Apart from the classic role, the Corps of EME actively participates in nation building projects to uplift the living standards of Sri Lankan citizens. These initiatives fulfilled the immediate requirements of the public with less expenditure, thus saving much needed funds diverting for other essential areas. REMOTELY OPERATED DIGITAL SCORE BOARD

User can log into control page of the scoreboard through mobile application & control it wirelessly. The flood warning system incorporates with telemetered rainfall and water level data measurements at various locations in the catchment area. WATER MANAGEMENT MONITORING SYSTEM

Water level monitoring system was installed at water tanks and towers related to Dockyard water management system which consist of 06 No’s data transmitting points. It is a real time monitoring system of water level at a central location at SLN Dockyard through GSM technology. Water level has been measured with sensor and processed data will be displayed in a graphical user Interfaced designed with programming language. It was useful to control water level/ overflow and save man power/ involvement. Project Cost was LKR 80,000.00.


HEADING SENSOR REPEATER

In order to phase out gyro units from FAC due to Rupees cost involved for maintenance heading sensor based repeater has been designed for FACs using java based programming language. The cost for the project was Rs.190,000.00 ware as normal maintenance package for gyro based system is approximately Rs.8 Millan. This project was carried out with the initial cost of LKR 190,000.00. The project has saved 8 million per craft.

Indigenously designed Naval Steering Control (NSC) project by Electrical New Design Center (ENDC) have been commenced to replace obsolete ASD control system onboard Fast Attack Craft with PLC based control system due to non-responsiveness of OEM and limited funds availability of SLN for OEM up gradation. Programmable Logic Controller has been used for the project and it was successfully installed in year 2019. This project saved Rs. 10 Million per craft and entire project saved 105 million per craft. Subsequently all the Craft of relevant FAC series were upgraded with PLC based NSC system


BILGE ALARM PANEL FOR SRILANKA NAVAL SHIPS

Addressable bilge alarm panel has been designed for SLNS Sagara at the unit cost of LKR 150,000.00. Addressable bilge alarm panel has been designed for A 543 which is capable of indicating exact location of the bilge sensor and the alarm is given with voice command to the ship crew. Project cost was of LKR 50,000.00. These two projects have saved millions for Sri Lanka Navy.


VEHICLE REPAIR PROJECTS

Repair and maintenance of the vehicle fleet of the Army is one of the prime responsibilities of the Corps of EME. Due to the age of the vehicle fleet, frequency of repairs were increased. Further, COVID-19 pandemic, global economic condition and the scarcity of spare parts in the local market worsened the repair process. With all the constraints, the Corps of EME continues its repairs to maintain the Army vehicle fleet. Sri Lanka Air Force Modifies Helicopters to Spray Disinfectant by Air If Required

On the instructions of the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sumangala Dias, the Research and Development Wing at Sri Lanka Air Force Base Katunayake and the Aeronautical Engineering Support Wing at Ratmalana has made apparatuses which can be mounted to a Bell 212, Bell 412 or MI-17 Helicopter. This equipment will enable the spraying of disinfectant liquids in large quantities from air to highly contaminated areas if required.
