VEHICLE REPAIR PROJECTS
Repair and maintenance of the vehicle fleet of the Army is one of the prime responsibilities of the Corps of EME. Due to the age of the vehicle fleet, frequency of repairs were increased. Further, COVID-19 pandemic, global economic condition and the scarcity of spare parts in the local market worsened the repair process. With all the constraints, the Corps of EME continues its repairs to maintain the Army vehicle fleet. In parallel to the 72nd Army Day, SLEME Regiments and Base Workshops completed repairs on vehicles as a project and handed over to the users.
LAND ROVER REPAIR PROJECT
Uniformity has been given to the Land Rover fleet of the Army by replacing previous components with SLEME-built identical grills and bumpers with unique appearence. All the vehicles were repainted with 'Army Green' to achieve the uniformity.
1ST REGIMENT SLEME
In parallel to 72nd Army Day, all the Regiments of Corps of SLEME repaired and released buses, trucks, tractors, light vehicles, motor cycles and push cycles for the user units in their areas of responsibility. In line with that 1st Regiment of SLEME-Panagoda carried out a vehicle repair project under the supervision of the Commander - Security Force (West) and distributed among users on 72nd Army Day.
3RD REGIMENT SLEME
In parallel to the 72nd Army Day, 3rd Regiment of SLEME- Minneriya, carried out a vehicle repair project under the supervision of the Commander - Security Force (East) and the Commander - Forward Maintenance Area( East). The vehicles were distributed in parallel to the 72nd Army Day.
4TH REGIMENT SLEME
Vehicle fleet in Jaffna area were badly affected due to salinity environment. To maintain the vehicles in the area, 4th Regiment SLEME - Jaffna has carried out several vehicle repair projects under the supervision of the Commander - Security Force (Jaffna) and the Commander-Forward Maintenance Area (North). Repaired vehicles were distributed among the users by the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army in parallel to the 72nd Army Day.
5TH REGIMENT SLEME
In parallel to the 72nd Army Day, 5th Regiment of SLEME- Saliyapura, carried out a vehicle repair project under the supervision of the Commander - Security Force (Wanni) and the Commander- Forward Maintenance Area-(North Central). The repaired vehicles were distributed by the Commander-Forward Maintenance Area (North Central) on 72nd Army Day.
6TH REGIMENT SLEME
In parallel to the 72nd Army Day, 6th Regiment of SLEME- Mullitivu, also carried out a vehicle repair project under the supervision of the Commander - Security Force (Mullitivu) and the Commander-Forward Maintenance Area (Mullitivu). The repaired vehicles were distributed by the Commander - Security Force (Mullitivu) on 72nd Army Day.
7TH REGIMENT SLEME
In parallel to the 72nd Army Day, 7th Regiment of SLEME- Kilinochchi, also carried out a vehicle repair project under the supervision of the Commander - Security Force (Kilinochchi) and the Commander-Forward Maintenance Area (Kilinochchi). The repaired vehicles were distributed by the Commander - Security Force (Kilinochchi) on 72nd Army Day.
2ND (V) REGIMENT SLEME
In parallel to the 72nd Army Day, 2nd (V) Regiment of SLEME- Diyathalawa, carried out a vehicle repair project under the supervision of the Commander - Security Force (Central) and distributed among the users on 72nd Army Day.
501 Sri Lanka Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Factory - Kosgama, carried out a liberty bus refurbishment project under the supervision of Directorate of EME and distributed among the users on 72nd Army Day.
REPAIRING OF SRI LANKA MILITARY ACADEMY VEHICLES
The Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army formally handed over the repaired vehicles and newly fabricated truck-mounted horse carrier, especially designed to Sri Lanka Military Academy stable. The modification process was undertaken by the troops of 2nd (V) Regiment SLEME. A newly built UniCOLT trucks were also handed over to the Sri Lanka Military Academy during this occasion.
